Senior Engineering Specialist
£41,587 - £45,746 + excellent benefits
London
Ref: 1502900

This unique role calls for so much more than engineering expertise. It is your creativity, and your commitment to enhance quality of life across the nation, that will set you apart.

You will enjoy a rare opportunity to drive forward vehicle improvements globally. With a broad and varied remit, you will work at the very heart of the UK’s vehicle safety and environmental policy. You’ll be an integral member of a specialist community responsible for crash avoidance, crash mitigation and pollution control standards.

Travelling throughout Europe and further afield, you will advise ministers on the very latest vehicle safety systems, automated control technologies and pollution control technologies. What’s more, you will play a direct role in negotiating domestic and international standards. You’ll identity research needs, and personally manage research projects, to ensure policies on vehicle technology are informed by evidence and analysis.

Along the way, you’ll work closely with diverse colleagues - from scientists and modellers, to economists and social researchers, statisticians and operational researchers plus, of course, fellow talented engineers. You will also forge productive working relationships with experts across the European Union, the UN-ECE, international partner organisations and the wider automotive sector.

To be equal to this exciting challenge, you’ll need to be a driven and creative thinker with proven mechanical or electrical/electronic engineering expertise. Your experience and interests may include pollution control technology, braking, steering, lighting, restraints systems, vehicle structures, and electronic systems including camera and radar technology.

Crucially, you’ll bring to the role a professional and flexible approach to project management. You ensure projects have strong business cases and use resources proportionately. Naturally, you will also demonstrate a flair for building strong working relationships and establishing credibility with technical experts. You have what it takes to engage with, and present to, peers, stakeholders and vehicle manufacturers from across the EU, Japan, USA and Australia.

Closing Date: Monday 26th September 2016
