Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Welwyn Garden City
Salary: £35,000 per annum
Our client is the global leading manufacturer for hydraulic lifting, loading and handling solutions. Your role will be to oversee the creation of Tail Lift design solutions against agreed technical specifications for the company's projects, ensuring conformity to industry, National, International and Company standards and compliance with European Directives and Regulations.
The Role:Ensure "innovative" designs conform to Industry, National, International and Company standards and comply with European Directives and Regulations.Control and plan all aspects of design tasks for each NMI process stages to meet budget, timescales and review dates in conjunction with the project team.Full 'cradle to grave' responsibility on design projects.Create all supporting documentation and calculations for project(s) and ensure CE Marking conformity.Liaise with Customers and Sales staff to ensure that customer requirements are understood and correctly interpreted and driven throughout the business.Liaise with vehicle manufacturers/end users to support projects and installations, through regular communication and 'on site' visits as necessary.Liaison with internal/external suppliers for parts and fabrications on the development, of new components.New/modified component designs to be value Engineered at all times with a clear focus on ensuring the designs are user centric and cost effective.Support and continuously improve Engineering processes within the team using quality controlling techniques, such as FMEA.Support and continuously improve production processes within the team using quality controlling techniques, such as PDCA.
Performance Measures:Right first time, every time on all Engineering instructions/drawings produced.Control & on time completion of all Ecn's (Passenger).Control & on time completion of all SE's (Passenger).SE (Special Equipment) specification completion to the exact customer requirement.Maintain standardisation discipline of all product models and associated components.Project & task on time delivery.Maintain discipline when following existing processes.To provide fast and accurate engineering support to internal and external customers.
Key Requirements:Formal Mechanical Engineering qualification (BEng/BSc/HND) or hold an NQF Level 6 qualification. Good understanding of stress analysis, materials, hydraulics and electrical design.Must be fully CAD literate, experience in PDM drawing control and FEA design analysis. (Creo 2, WindChill & Simulation are the current packages used.)Able to demonstrate application of parametric and configuration design.Able to drive major new model introduction and cost-down design projects to specification and timescales.Demonstrable control of multiple tasks, using identifiable control techniques and working in a clear logical, methodical mannerMust be self-motivated, a good, clear, concise communicator internally and externally - must be a team player and must be able to represent the engineering department within the business as required.Must be able to represent the Company externally in a competent, responsible and professional manner.Must be able to demonstrate all the above skills in a previous design role position.
