You’ll provide professional oversight,
And co-ordinate our approach to security.

The challenge

A fast-evolving public corporation, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is committed to shaping the future of regulation in the UK nuclear industry. To help us achieve our ambitions, we are looking for an inspirational individual to provide exemplary oversight and leadership on matters of security.

The role

This is a role that will see you supporting the Head of Programme, while also influencing security policy and strategy on an international level. It is about providing effective management and leadership to key groups within ONR. You will co-ordinate senior managers, manage the delivery of work, and prioritise key objectives. Part of the role will also see you supporting ONR’s longer-term plans, so you will have the chance to lead the preparation and delivery of programme plans. You will also work across the sector – co-ordinating security communication with the civil nuclear industry.

The person

An individual with a credible background in security and excellent communication skills, you will foster meaningful relationships across the nuclear industry. Key to this is having the gravitas to influence senior management.

Degree-educated, or with equivalent experience at a professional level, you will also have a membership of a relevant professional institution. This will be supported by good working knowledge of the nuclear sector and extensive knowledge of security, including experience of the management of security in a high-hazard industrial sector.

The rewards

We offer competitive salaries at ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £74,811 - £80,658. Furthermore, you will be eligible for the comprehensive Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits). Plus, you will receive a very generous holiday entitlement.

About us

ONR is a Public Corporation created to ensure the highest standards of safety and security across all of the UK’s licensed nuclear sites. Our inspectors are drawn from all manner of professional backgrounds including security, civil engineering, radiological protection, human factors, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear physics. And together they are involved in everything from assessing safety cases and security plans to inspections and advising licensees on areas such as safety and security culture, leadership and vision.
