Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Business/Department: Electric Power Steering (EPS) – Sensor Team

The Role
TRW is one of the world’s largest producers of electrically powered steering systems, supplying a wide range of global vehicle manufacturers. Key to vehicle safety these products must meet stringent legislative requirements while also satisfying increasing demands from end-users, resulting in a highly technical product that requires high calibre engineers.

This position is responsible for design and development of sensor sub-systems for electro-mechanical steering products. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and releasing all mechanical technical documentation for vehicle applications including 3D models, drawings, tolerance stacks, sub-system DFMEA and Key Performance Characteristics. This position works with customer application teams as well as with suppliers of steering sensor components and in-house manufacturing sites.

What you’ll do 

  • Design and development of new sensor product 
  • Create and release assembly models and drawings of the sensor sub-system for customer platforms 
  • Generate the mechanical design, interface documents, and sensor sub-assembly and component specifications based on input received from systems team 
  • Arrange, conduct and participate in reviews with the gGlobal sensor development team 
  • Support product validation and release sensor assembly into application 
  • Support supplier and in-house manufacturing, particularly during product launch phases 
  • Analyse test results, with other engineering disciplines where necessary, and produce technical reports for customer approval 
  • Measure and monitor project progress against targets and issue regular status updates to the team

What we are looking for
Essential: 

  • Degree level qualified or equivalent in an relevant engineering discipline with emphasis on (preferably automotive or mechanical) 
  • Significant experience in automotive engineering, particularly mechanics, materials & manufacturing technologies and quality processes 
  • Experience of leading technical staff in a design and development environment 
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and set priorities
  • Proficient Catia V5 user - a 
  • Abilityble to create drawings to international drafting standards 
  • Good communication skills 
  • Must have cConfidencet and experienced toin representing TRW with suppliers and customers 
  • Able to work flexibly in a multi-disciplinary team and on own initiative 
  • Willing and ableness to travel overseas

Desirable: 

  • Fluent in a second language 
  • ProIntralink and Pro Engineer skills would be a distinct advantage 
  • Experience in design of components for mass production manufacture, particularly turned parts is desirable
